Sumo Words & Verbs

Terms of Use

Last updated: 4 November 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Anatolii Kataev, an individual developer in Yerevan, Armenia, who makes Sumo Words & Verbs (“we”, “us”), for using Sumo Words & Verbs. By using the app you accept them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Sumo Words & Verbs.

Using Sumo Words & Verbs

  • The beginning of the course is free. Sumo Words & Verbs Pro unlocks all of it.
  • Use Sumo Words & Verbs for your own learning. Don’t copy, extract or redistribute the course, its recordings or its artwork, or reverse-engineer the app, except where the law allows it.

Sumo Words & Verbs Pro subscriptions

  • Sumo Words & Verbs Pro is an optional auto-renewing yearly subscription. The price, and the free trial for first-time subscribers, are shown before you buy.
  • A free trial turns into a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the trial.
  • The subscription renews automatically at the same price and period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You are charged within 24 hours before each renewal.
  • Payment is charged to your Apple Account. You manage or cancel the subscription in your Apple Account’s subscription settings: on iPhone and iPad, Settings → your name → Subscriptions; on a Mac, the App Store → your name → Account Settings → Subscriptions.
  • Refunds follow Apple’s policies.

Our content

The course, texts, recordings, illustrations, the Tarō character and the software belong to us or to our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use them for learning while you follow these terms.

Some material comes from others under its own licence and stays under it: the kanji and word data come from KANJIDIC2 and JMdict (© the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group, CC BY-SA 4.0), the stroke-order data from KanjiVG (© Ulrich Apel and contributors, CC BY-SA 3.0), the example sentences from the Tatoeba project (CC BY 2.0 FR), and the voice was made with Kokoro-82M (Apache License 2.0). The app’s About page lists them with links.

Disclaimers and liability

Sumo Words & Verbs is an educational tool. We work hard on accurate content and a reliable app, but we provide it “as is” and can’t guarantee it is free of errors. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for Sumo Words & Verbs Pro in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law.

Apps from the App Store

  • These terms are between you and us, the developer of Sumo Words & Verbs, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support.
  • If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple for a refund of the purchase price (if any); to the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
  • Apple is not responsible for any claims relating to the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer protection or intellectual-property claims; we are.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you are not in a country subject to a U.S. embargo and not on any U.S. list of prohibited or restricted parties.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Armenia. If you use Sumo Words & Verbs as a consumer, this doesn’t take away the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live, and you can also bring a claim in the courts there.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms; for significant changes we’ll tell you in the app in advance. Continuing to use Sumo Words & Verbs after that means you accept the new terms. Sumo Words & Verbs is made by Anatolii Kataev, an individual developer in Yerevan, Armenia. Questions: support@sumojapanese.app.
